Shasui Waterfall

Kanagawa's great natural wonder

Following this walkway will take you close to the largest fall

From Yamakita Station it’s about a thirty-minute walk to these falls which can easily be found by following any one of the numerous signs with the following characters: 酒水の滝

A long river will lead you into a forest

As you enter this forest, the sounds of running water will get louder

Suddenly, you will get your first glimpse of these falls through an opening in the forest canopy

The falls will become more visible as you approach along the main walkway

Interestingly, Shasui Waterfall actually consists of 3 separate falls. The largest and most visible one measures over 69 meters in height

Unfortunately, the two other smaller falls are officially closed off to the public because of damage to the main walkway caused by falling boulders

Set deep within Kanagawa Prefecture's western most limit is the rural district of Yamakita; an area of natural beauty which despite its low-key appearance, boasts a wealth of attractions including the impressive Shasui Waterfall.

Ranked within Japan’s top 100 waterfalls, Shasui has been famous amongst locals and enthusiasts for many centuries with a rich history dating back to the Kamakura Era (1185–1333).

Reaching over 69 meters in height and situated towards the end of a sparsely forested valley, you will easily be able to see this natural wonder from far away.

To get there: Take the Gotenba Line to Yamakita Station.

Nice pics, especially with the white, black, and red! I am curious what the scene would look like in winter or autumn.

Hi there justin, I actually went there in winter but I think this area dosen't get much snowfall even during winter
