Hayama Shiosai Koen Park

Former Imperial Villa - Second Residence

Hayama, located on the Miura Peninsula just below Kamakura and Zushi, is a popular seaside resort. The Emperor Yoshihito (the Taisho Era Emperor) sometimes went to Hayama for his health. In 1925 he was staying at the second residence of the Imperial Villa, when he suddenly died. He was succeeded by Prince Hirohito, the Showa Emperor. Shiosai Koen Park is where the succession ceremony was held, and is now open to the public as a marine life museum. The museum, and a beautiful Japanese garden, sit just next to the beach, from which a refreshing sea breeze blows in.
