Hayama, located on the Miura Peninsula just below Kamakura and Zushi, is a popular seaside resort. The Emperor Yoshihito (the Taisho Era Emperor) sometimes went to Hayama for his health. In 1925 he was staying at the second residence of the Imperial Villa, when he suddenly died. He was succeeded by Prince Hirohito, the Showa Emperor. Shiosai Koen Park is where the succession ceremony was held, and is now open to the public as a marine life museum. The museum, and a beautiful Japanese garden, sit just next to the beach, from which a refreshing sea breeze blows in.

Out of curiosity, Tomoko, is there a "best season" to visit the garden? Is it particularly known for a certain type of flower? Or is it a decent place to escape to in summer when the rest of the area is unbearably hot? ;)
Any season, Mandy. Flowers? The garden is always well trimmed and even in winter, you'll get some charm there. Another nice place to keep out the heat is cafe "Orange Blue" at the Museum of Modern Art, Hayama. And don't forget that the beach in Hayama is really fun!

Thanks, Tomoko. I'm not familiar with the Hayama area at all so I appreciate the tips!
