The Niihama City Hirose Memorial Museum grounds comprise the residence of industrialist Saihei Hirose, a museum, as well as an expansive and elegant garden. The Hirose Residence was constructed between 1877 and 1889. Hirose started working at the nearby Besshi Copper Mine at 11 years of age and retired as the Director in Chief of Sumitomo Industries at the age of 67 in 1894.
